The question we get asked the most is, “How many backlinks will it take for me to get to the first page of Google?”
While there are a ton of factors that influence ratings, the number of unique domains linking to a page is definitely most important. The best thing you can do is build more backlinks to that specific page. And there are a few things to consider here.
Not all backlinks are created equal. One good backlink can be worth more than 10,000 crappy backlinks. In fact, Google tries to ignore backlinks that shouldn’t have value.
So, just because a website has the most linking and root domains doesn’t mean it’s going to win the competition. Link quality, strength, and content all matter. And the closer you get to the top, the more these matter.
Log into Ahrefs and type in the keyword you want to rank for. It’ll tell you, on average, how many links it takes to get to page one. Once you have this number, you’ll know what to aim for. But don’t just focus on that number. Remember to focus on the quality, too.
