If you’ve been spending a lot of time trying to figure out the best anchor text ratios, we want to share a way to make every single one of your links match the right text.
First, only target the links you know you need. And don’t just pray your backlink profile looks natural. Keep it – and your anchor text ratios – natural all along the way.
This still leaves us guessing at those anchor text ratios. There are three main categories for good anchor text ratios: exact match anchors, key phrases mixed with anchors, and brand/natural/URL anchors.
Exact match anchors are links that use key phrases as the anchor text. Just make sure your key phrase is an exact match. Key phrases mixed with anchors have one of your key phrases in the anchor text and other words that aren’t part of your key phrase. Brand/natural/URL anchors have no reference to your key phrase, unless it’s part of your brand.
Out of those three categories, the largest percentage of your homepage links should be brand/natural/URL anchors. And your homepage should be where most of the links to your site go.
